As one coral polyp dies its skeleton is used by other coral polyps to attach them selves on, which causes the reefs to grow over time. Coral reefs are mainly found in tropical waters as the waters around Nevis. The Caribbean Sea is a premium environment for coral reefs, because of the clear water. A high visibility combined with the sunny weather means that the reef will receive a lot of sun light and the energy is used by the corals to grow. The coral are unable to synthesise energy through photosynthesis, as a substitute they form relationships with microscopic algae that do the photosynthesise in their place.
