Dive site information: Carless (Careless) Reef is an isolated reef located in the open sea between Shaab Umm Qamar and Giftun island. Most scuba divers come here to dive with the curious moray eels that have become quite tame by now.

The Carless (Careless) Reef is centred on two peaks/pinnacles that are just barely submerged. Between the pinnacles is a 16 m / 52 ft deep valley. For wall enthusiasts, Carless (Careless) Reef offers a steep wall that drops well beyond 40 m /130 ft. The profile is rough and filled with caves and caveletts.

Since Carless (Careless) Reef is so remote and exposed, weather conditions have to be good for scuba diving to be safe here.

Marine life: The most popular feature at Carless (Careless) Reef is of course the famous moray eels. Carless (Careless) Reef has a very big population of giant morays. Many scuba divers like to feed the eels, so they moray eels are quite found of divers by now and not very shy. The usually stay out of their caves and swim around when divers are in the area.

Most coral species are present, soft as well as hard ones, and the animal life is certainly not limited to moray eels. Since the reef is so isolated and situated in deep water, Carless (Careless) Reef it’s a very good dive site for scuba divers who wish to spot large pelagics such as sharks. Jacks, barracuda and tuna are also common.
