Inside the Gabr El Bint bay the wall starts at around 8 m / 26 ft. There is a gently sloping reef flat that leads to the shore, filled with acropora. North of the bay point, the upper part of the reef slope begins to widen and will eventually encompass a very beautiful soft coral forest with huge gorgonians. A big lagoon with sandy bottom is to be found inshore, speckled with occasional coral heads.
Most scuba divers arrive to Gabr El Bint by dromedary camels, since the coastline between Dahab and Sharm El Sheik is quite deserted and inaccessible. The camels are driven by Bedouins and arriving in this fashion, with all your diving gear loaded on the back of a camel, is an unforgettable part of the scuba diving trip.
Marine life:
Most Red Sea fish species are present at Gabr El Bint, but generally not in large quantities. The sandy lagoon is an exception, since there are a lot of large crocodilefish living there. The lagoon is also a good place to see rays. Soft and hard coral formations are abundant at Gabr El Bint, accompanied by a lot of gorgonians in the 2 to 3 m / 7 to 20 ft range.
