Visibility: Average visibility in the waters around the wreck of Giannis D is 30-35m / 98-115 ft.

Depth: Minimum depth to the wreck is no more than 6m / 20 ft (above the Bridge). The maximum depth to the seabed is 27 m /89 ft (at the Stern).

Water temperature: The water temperatures in the area where The Giannis D is resting is depending on the time of year. The coldest month is February and water temperatures will usually be around 20° C (68°F) then. After the warm summer season, water temperatures in September are usually around 27° C (81° F).

Dive site information: The Giannis D was a cargo vessel, loaded with sawn softwood and on her way from Croatia to Saudi Arabia and Yemen via the Suez Bay in April, 1983. Her journey was however abruptly ended when she drove onto the north-western corner of the Abu Nuhas Reef and sank. The Giannis D is now divided into three different parts; stern, amidships and bows. All parts provide interesting scuba diving, but most scuba divers start with the stern since that part looks most dramatic.

Marine life: A lot of soft and hard corals has started to grow on the wreck of Giannis D. The wreck is also very popular place for reef fishes, which have left their original home at the adjacent reef and is now living inside and around the Ginannis D. One of the more notable inhabitants is giant Napoleon Wrasse.
