A guide to scuba diving at The Caves

Dive site: The Caves

Location: Egypt, North Sinai

Dive type: Reef dive, shore dive, cave dive

Skill level: Beginner

Visibility: The Caves offers an average visibility of 20m / 65ft.

Depth: The maximum depth at The Caves is more than 50 m / 164 ft. The average depth is 20 m / 65 ft.

Water temperature: Water temperatures at The Caves will vary according to season. The water around The Caves is warmest during the summer and reaches 27° C / 81° F in September. The coldest month is February, when water temperatures usually stay around 20° C /68° F.

Dive site information: A big, open-fronted chamber (or cavern) is undercutting the reef table not far from the shore. There are often strong waves present at the surface, so you might want to put on your fins in the water to avoid losing your balance in the surf. The entry point is marked by a not very large, semicircular shelter/windbreak by the track. The best way to enter the top of the cavern is to throw your self off the edge of the reef and into the deep water. The undercut section of the cave can be entered from each side of the sandhill. The reef around the cave is just as attention-grabbing as the cave it self, and is covered in soft and hard corals. When you exit, you can let the swells carry you onto the reeftop.

Marine life: The reef is covered in soft and hard corals, and is home to many reef and schooling fishes.
